Ah, its no problem anyway. This magazine came up for sale on eBay over here in the US (maybe in New Jersey?) along with another Look-In and I just bought it. Its been up there for a week. So I'll know when I get it. :)

Take care guys! I'm off to process a bunch of wood. A friend and I have a big wood processor and 20 cords of oak to turn into firewood.... :) Have a great day!

That's a bad cough you've got, Gary! Yep, I'll give you that one! Don't know why I put 'poisonous' instead of venomous. Now I know I'm definitely losing it! :|

They (the film crew) had painted it with something to make it look old/ neglected/ dusty- unfortunately when they cleaned that off the loco's paint was damaged.Look in magazine did a feature on the four children. This - I think- may be on the Yahoo group 'Jenny Thanisch' fan site. However, the site has been neglected by its administrator and is largely spam- of a pornographic kind now.
A tv interview was shown on a kids tv programme (called 'The Saturday Banana') made by Southern Television- sadly no copies are known to exist.
The Train query is one for Gary, me thinks!

However, Why a train was hired from the I.O.W. is beyond me. To go to all the effort of hiring that particular train & then have it transported over to the mainland is a bit odd. There were trains/carriages that could've been hired from British Rail, that were based at Southampton, which is extremely close to Marchwood...or hired from an heritage railway company, like the one at Didcot (again, close by). Freight trains were still running along the Marchwood line from Southampton in 1978 & could've been hired to pull carriages sourced locally. It would've made sense, & cost cutting! Everything was in place to do so, but I might be wrong (as always!).

I didn't say that it was hired from the Isle of Wight. I meant I had read that it was reportedly on the Isle of Wight now(or when I read the item) written by, I think, the chap that had owned it.He had since sold it. I imagine there aren't many steam locos still available and any company that wants to run a tourist line is likely to have to get it delivered.

Oh, sorry Jack! I thought you meant it was on the I.O.W. in the 70's. My mistake! :|

Nope. You ingest poison. You are injected with venom. The only way a snake or spider or anything else can be 'poisonous' is if you eat it.

Thanks, everybody for all your replies, insight, and discussion. And jack400, the railroad links were great! I haven't read all of the articles but really loved the one with the pics with the Famous Five cast. Really cool how they made the fake tunnel look so real, but it was only 6 feet deep. The mastery of illusion is incredible. Now I have to go back and watch that episode all over again. :)

Thanks, Gary for clearing up the difference between venomous and poisonous. I never really thought of that at all. See? Old dogs can learn something new. :)

Have gotten on to "All Creatures Great and Small" lately - another series from my childhood. I saw someone mentioned "The Goodies" on here at one time. Another great series that I missed when it ended. I grew up with much more British TV than American, I must say... thank goodness for that! What passes for American humour has always seemed kind of inane or base to me. Whereas British humour is almost always something that's witty - often with a hidden surprise or twist that really makes you laugh when you catch on.In some ways I think I made a mistake in coming to the USA, as I think I'd like it a lot better in Britain, as my roots are there. :)

Anyway, have a good night all. Thanks again for all the great discussion!

The Goodies were brilliant, Privateer! I must admit, the British sense of humour is hard to beat. Have you seen 'Ripping Yarns' starring Michael Palin of Monty Python fame? It's a collection of eight episodes, each one a different rip-roaring adventure. Rather silly, but done in the best possible taste!

I watch UK-television and movies, too.
I like Inspector Barnaby, some times you can see Marcus Harry in the background!
Or Vera, Lewis, Dr. Who!!

My wife and I love Vera. We notice there doesn't seem to be as many murders as there are in Midsomer Murders in each episode?

Let's face it, you'd rather be living anywhere else but Midsomer! An incredible amount of Murders in such a small area. Murder capital of the World!!
However, on the bright side, at least each case get solved within an hour!! :o

To be fair, poor old Midsomer is a *huge* county - larger than London, so there's a lot of places for murders to happen. Unlike Oxford, which isn't a big city and yet between Morse and Lewis I reckon 15% of the population must have been murdered by now...
