Thanks, Anita. I don't mind posting location photos as long as there's folk interested in them.

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series
Hang, isn't Daanton asking if Gatewood is in S1 as well as S2, in which case the answer is no. Gatewood is only in S2.number 6 wrote:Yes, it has daanton. It featured in 'fall into adventure' where Jo visits during the night & is captured by Dick. There's also a barn next to Gatewood house where the F5 & Jo are seen in the same episode. I'll post a photo of it. The house has been used as a backdrop in a few other episodes as well.

Yes you're right, Gary. Gatewood only appeared in S2... which I failed to point out to daanton in my last post! Doh!
Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series
I'm off to stay at Smuggles Top-Burley Manor again in 2 weeks! I have done most of the sights now with my trips to the forest but still eager to visit more.
Does anyone know where the 2 tree's burnt out old house is from "Five on a hike"??
Any suggestions of where to go now that's worth visiting whilst there??? I love going to these places, I've been to the following....
Exbury house and gardens
Hurst castle
Lepe for Curtains beach house
Rhinefield house
Highcliffe castle
The bridge and traveller site from "five go off in a caravan"
Burley manor numerous times!
Gatewood house-is that also Tinkers home when they meet Mr Woo??? It looks like it.
On another note, I can't remember what thread it's on when is the meet up at Exbury?? I know the 14th May was mention, but now has changed, has a new date been mention?

Nothings been mentioned yet, Helenbee. It would be nice if Gary could let us know when he's available and maybe we could all work around that.

I agree, Julie. Think it would be more interesting if Gary were to attend the meet-up, so he can point out little facts & stories about the filming at Exbury, etc.

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series
Think you've covered 90% of the locations, Helenbee! Most are located quite close to Exbury house. A few more you may like to visit at some point are listed below.
Mudeford quay (Five go down to the sea), nr Christchurch, Dorset
Dancing ledge (Five go down to the sea) nr Swanage, Dorset
Lymington quay & old town (Five get into trouble) Hampshire
Yes, I think Gatewood house is used as Tinkers house.

Helenbee, Whilst you were at Gatewood Bridge, did you recognise the place where George rides her bike down a slope in the opening credits of the 1978 F5 TV series? Here's how it looks today! Just above the slope is where the Circus camp was located in Five go off in a caravan.

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series
Thank you for your replies everyone.
Ooooo you reminded me number 6 I missed Mudeford Quays off my list!! Yes I have been there! On my first NF trip last March my bf took me there to show me where he used to go every summer crab fishing with his grandparents who lived there! It weren't till a day later I googled the FF Locations, came across this forum and seeing Mudeford come up as part of Demon Rocks!!
I couldn't believe it! I made my bf take me back to there to take pics of the areas featured in the episode and the rest of our trip I went around some of the areas! And gone to more every time we go down there!
He never watched it but loves that we do my famous five adventure hunting when there! We've found some great places too from going to some of the locations
Be great to get a date in the diary as I'd like to bring me niece for the day as she loves it and like you say be great to hear stories and Gary's memoirs going along.

Glad you've enjoyed your travels to the F5 locations, Helenbee! You've certainly got a lot of drive & enthusiasm! Hopefully, Gary will get in touch soon with a date in mind, then we can all meet up in Exbury! I think Gary is in Australia at the moment.

I almost didn't recognize it! The amount of growth that can occur over the course of almost 40 years....number 6 wrote:Helenbee, Whilst you were at Gatewood Bridge, did you recognise the place where George rides her bike down a slope in the opening credits of the 1978 F5 TV series? And BTW, thanks for the info (re Gatewood), number 6. And thanks to Gary Russell for the precision.

You're more than welcome, daanton. The growth of trees, etc, can change the look of a location, sometimes almost beyond recognition. So you have to look a bit closer & try to imagine what it would look like 35+ years ago!
