Gary and Marcus on the move......

Post by peppermint peppy »

I'm so pleased to announce that Gary and Marcus will come to Münster/Germany in April. There will take place a big convention for filmfans and autograph collectors.
It's admirable you can meet G&M together with stars from "James Bond","Star Wars"
"Police Academy" and good old "Catweazle"-Geoffrey Bayldon.

For more informations have a look on http://www.GERMANSTARCON.de

Geoffrey Bayldon? I never realised that he was still around, he would be well into his eighties by now. His portrayal of Catweazle was excellent but in later years he became better known for the role of The Crowman in the Southern Television series Worzel Gummidge. Was this ever shown in Germany I wonder?

Dunno Petermax.'Thought Worzel Gummidge was a British children's character in the 70/80's.After googlingI can't remember such scarecrow-stories.

Would you believe that Geoffrey Bayldon was in an episode of the Famous Five? He played the part of Mr Gringle in Five Go To Billycock Hill. Gary Russell mentioned him briefly in his EBS article to say that he did not resemble Catweazle! Will Mr Bayldon remember Gary and Marcus? It should be an interesting reunion.

Worzel Gummidge followed on from the Famous Five as the main Southern TV childrens series. Filmed between 1979 and 1981 it was very successful and ran for four seasons. Alas, the lead actor Jon Pertwee who played Worzel Gummidge is no longer with us.

This sounds like a cool event. Its good to see that Gary and Marcus, and by extension the '78 Famous Five series is getting some recognition.

Jon Pertwee also played Doctor Who for a while did'nt he? He was the original doctor if I'm not mistaken.

I'm afraid you ARE mistaken. He was the Doc for five years between 1970 and 1974. But he was Doc #3. Before him was William Hartnell (starting in 1963) and Patrick Troughton. Jon Pertwee's stories were my favorite to read, but Tom Baker was my favorite Doctor to watch.

Jon was also in a number of Carry On movies, playing a sort of Worzel-like character in many of them. Apparently, Doctor Who was his first role that he played "as himself" -- odd how playing a 700-year-old time travelling Timelord with two hearts is the closest he got to playing himself.

Oops. He must have the first Doctor Who that I ever watched then as I think I began watching somewhere around the 1972/1973 point. It is Tom Baker that I remember best though. The longest scarf in the world surely.

Just watched an amazing Tom Baker episode - The Talons of Weing Chan - or something like that. The good Doctor was obviously influenced by a certain Trotteville, as he managed to escape from a locked room by the paper under the door trick!

Lovely photo, Sticks! Marcus and Gary gave a very entertaining talk at the EB Day last year, and Marcus was there the previous year too.
