The Daily Mail one was online, as I looked at it this morning and wondered why they had misquoted both Barbara Stoney and myself! They have now taken it off and I'm afraid that your link doesn't work any more either Pippa-Stef - somebody doesn't want it to be read.

I think there was something in most of today's papers, the exception being The Independent.

The Sun newspaper also has 2 and a half minutes of clips from the series - sound quality not too good (very noisy) and some of it looks a bit Scooby Doo. I liked the exterior depiction of what I assume is Kirrin Cottage, though!

I've posted the url below.

This is a Green Knight Book which means that it is a book by one of the most popular authors of all.

I think I'll sit on the fence for this one because I have never seen any Blyton stories on television

Personally, I always prefer a book to a programme - the exception is Branagh's Henry V - which is why I haven't watched the FF or anything.

Have I read it right - this new cartoon features the children of the original FF? If that's right then why not just do a cartoon of an updated FF? Or would that be worse?

I suppose that it is debateable about having an updated orginal FF.

Personally though I would much prefer an updated orginal than what is coming out, but having no control over the Media, I have no say.

Unless the masses were to rise up! :D  we might be able to achive something!

It all depends on whether or not this encourages children today to read the original books. If Yes then its ok I suppose, I have no interest in watching it myself but if it reinvigorates The Five then fine.

I dont like some of the the updating, using cell phones to order pizza! What happened to new laid eggs and glistening Hams from a local farmhouse? And of all the characters to resurrect they had to choose Edgar Stick! At least we now know that he followed in the parental foorsteps and became a crook. Stock markets, Japanese Yen, Californian art dealer? None of these embody the original concept of four adventurous kids and their dog having happy simple adventures in the English countryside. Not for me at all I'm afraid but, as I said, if it leads to any resurgent interest in Enid Blyton's original books then it will have achieved some purpose.

I am glad that its not the original Five who are featured, I do think that would be worse as it would be impinging directly on, and altering unforgiveably, Blyton's creations. At least there is a believable sense of remove engendered by making the characters their children, though Grandchildren would probably be more appropriate for the timescale

Yes you're probably right!

I was walking home with a Friend today and I showed her the copy of the Daily Mail article, and she hit the roof (She is not nessicarily a huge Blyton Fan, but she is a passionate book lover) and she said that they shouldn't be taking a creation such as The FF, and making it something un reconisable! :?

She was a bit excitable at the time, but I agree slightly with her. Maybe it's just the way I think because the FF has been taken out of it's time, thus the whole overall concept has changed!

Am I looking at this wrong?

Thanks for giving that link to the video clip, Viking Star. Much too snappy, snazzy and sassy for me, I'm afraid! I'm fond of the slow-paced, innocent, largely rural world of Enid Blyton's Famous Five books, and the cartoon will obviously have a totally different feel to it.

The Daily Mail article can now be read online here:

[Daily Mail:] One of the episodes is called The Case Of The Thief That Drinks From The Toilet and another The Case Of The Impolite, Snarly Thing.
Goodness gracious! What would Julian say?!

Your scanned copy was great, Pippa-Stef, but I was curious to see whether the online article had been removed permanently or temporarily!
