Glad they bring back memories, Anita. Here’s a few more from Season One - more often than not, the series was one of the programmes chosen to receive a “highlight of the day” photo on the listings page. There’s also an article about actor Brian Croucher, mentioning his upcoming role as Rooky in Trouble the following season.

I find it amusing that his 'surname' is always given - Toddy Woodgate.

You’re both more than welcome! I may find a few more.

In the 1978 issues of the paperbacks, with the TV series images on the front and back, Toddy is also credited with a surname. I was surprised when I saw the TV series itself that he was only credited as Toddy, but his trainer (and perhaps owner) Ben Woodgate always got a credit too.

A couple of other photos from the TV Times promoting Series Two, and a TV Times article about children’s fiction which mentions the Famous Five books amongst others.

It's good to see these, Morgan.

The article describes the Famous Five as having "struck an important blow for children", with George as "the original misfit, the girl who wants to be a boy because she prefers the kind of treatment boys receive". George has certainly made an impact on many readers but it should be mentioned that girl characters from earlier literature had paved the way for her. I'm thinking of feisty girls with a tomboyish streak like Jo March (Little Women by L. M. Alcott), Katy Carr (What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge), Alice Bastable (The Story of the Treasure Seekers by E. Nesbit) and George Fayne (the Nancy Drew series written by a syndicate under the name Carolyn Keene).
