Famous Five - which TV series?
Famous Five - which TV series?
As we've got a new forum, and as polls are in fashion at the moment, I thought I'd chip in my four penn'orth.
1990's for me, It's so clear, and almost like they are actually living in the olden days, you can tell this by the shoes and clothes they wear, and hair style!
The other one 70's is not to my liking at all, as it does not depict life as it was then, in other words too modern.

There is always something else new to learn.

Re: Famous Five - Which TV Series
I'm going to have to go 1990's TV series too. I haven't seen all episodes from the 70's but the ones I have seen were not as good as the same ones from the 1990's. I think the 1990's kept to the books more. And there are lots of funny moments in the series - Dick makes me laugh every time.
I really love the theme song/sequence from the 70's. I just love when Dick falls from the raft and that tune is so catchy! I also think that George looks more like I imagine her to look in the 70's version.

I think this decision depends on your age-class.
I love the 70's series because I grew up with it.

The 1990s TV series for me, too. I loved the period setting and the cast were great for the most part, and I remember having just the tiniest of crushes on Jemima Rooper (who played George).
I have seen a few episodes of the 1970s series, but it's just too dated for me. Isn't that strange? Programmes that are set in the past date very little, if at all. Rather like Dad's Army. I am a big fan of that show, and yet I can't stand other comedies from that period: Are You Being Served? and others.
Sorry, getting a wee bit off tangent. Anyway, another vote for the 1990s series here!

Good as the 1990s series was, I still prefer the Southern TV 1970s version. Yes it was set in the wrong time period but the characterisation transcends all of that. I grew up in the 1970s and the clothes that the Famous Five were wearing were very similar to my own attire of the time apart from my Doc Martens and snorkel parka! The Famous Five wearing Doc Martens, now there's a thought!

Yes, I agree with you, Matt. (Did you watch Jemima in Hex?
Looking at the 70s series with its mis-spellings in the credits, Obvious shots of the New Forest, Hants & Dorset buses........
The 90s series was much more in keeping. I always though though, that despite the locations and period details, the 70s series was closer to the books.
It is very interesting to compare them.

For me the 70's ones are better, not only because I was little when they were putting them on TV in here, but also because I think the actors do it better than in the 90's one...
I saw some chapters of the 90's one and didn't like them at all... maybe it was because I have the memories of the 70's ones...
