A pixie who cut away a child's shadow

Post by phil.edgar »

Hi all,

I'm trying to identify a children's book which I originally assumed was a Ladybird book but now i think might be by Enid Blyton.

All i can remember about it is that there was some kind of pixie thing who cut the shadow away of a little girl (i think) and wouldn't;t give it back. Other than that I'm stupid.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Phil

Could it be Susie and Her Shadow?

It appears in these books:

" A kind heart always brings its own reward," said Mrs. Lee.

There is also a story called The Stolen Shadow in the Third Holiday Book, which was reprinted in 'Rainy Day stories', 'The Magic Clock' and more recently in 'Summer Stories'.

Thanks, Katharine. I looked up that version.
It can be read for a short time here:

Probably not right, but this is one of the only two Ladybird books with an Enid Blyton story.

That's interesting Tony. I have the pepper pot one, I hadn't noticed that it was a Ladybird book too.

So now I have a dilemma - should it go with my Enid Blyton or Ladybird collections?

This story was originally published as 'The Funny Little Shadow' in Sunny Stories No.247, Oct 3 1941.
It was great to be able to read The Funny Little Shadow here:

Thanks everyone. I'm now almost certain it's Susie and Her Shadow.

Next step is to try and get hold of a copy!
