Courtenay wrote:No wonder that last one sounded familiar... it's obviously too long since I last re-read the Galliano books!! Well done, Rob.

As for the new one... is it The Children of Cherry-Tree Farm?

I was sure you'd get the Galliano quote!

No - sorry the new quote isn't from Cherry Tree Farm! ;-)
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Cheers. :D

Here's the next. Again it is the very first line in the book:
TWO children and a dog raced down to the village
sweet-shop in excitement.
" A kind heart always brings its own reward," said Mrs. Lee.

I have a feeling that's the opening line of The Children of Kidillin, Pete. :D

Yes - correct.
Using the first lines keeps this game really moving along.

Thanks, Pete. I'm away from home at the moment, though, so won't be able to post a new quote until at least tomorrow (as I don't want to do it without having the book as a definite reference).

Hiya Courtenay, gentle reminder for the next post. :)

Thanks, Shanku, although the usual rule is to leave it a week before reminding the person whose turn it is next — it's only been four days!! I'm back at home now but have been fairly busy at work. I'll pick a new one today.

Not so much a rule as an advisory comment to give the setter of a question a week to respond to a reply. At least that's how I first interpreted it.

Here's where I was getting it from: https://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/for ... =19&t=4564" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyway, how about this (not a first line this time!)...
So the girls were made to take their turn at the oars, and the boys lazed as they went along past the thickly-wooded banks.

That line is from chapter eight of one of Julie's faves: The Boy Next Door.
