Sorry, Daisy it is not Diana.
The speaker is female and the quote is spoken at the beginning of the book when the children who feature in this series first meet this character and are on taking part in an action that leads to adventure.
It is NOT the Famous Five, the Secret Seven, the Find-Outers, the Barney books, the Secret books, the Adventure books or any of the school stories.
I hope that helps narrow it down.

Yes, Eddie. It is Silky in The Enchanted Wood. She says this when she first meets the children and they are climbing the Faraway Tree. They tell her they are climbing up to see what is at the top which is when she says the quote.

Over to you.

Thanks, Snugglepot. :D

Here's a new one:

"No!" said ? "He'd be all limp and wriggly and horrid - like a worm or a jellyfish!"

Who is speaking, about whom and in which book?

I guess it's a girl, possibly Dinah, but I can't for the life of me think what the limp and wriggly thing might be!

It’s not Diana, Snugglepot.

Good guess, Pete. It is Anne, but not in Five Have a Wonderful Time or about the India Rubber Man.

Wow! Thank you Eddie.

Next: Who said this and in what book did they say it?
" I'm not one to gossip round, never have been, and I'm not going to start now."
" A kind heart always brings its own reward," said Mrs. Lee.

A good guess Daisy. It is a Mrs. But not from the Find Outers books...
