I've been struggling with this one, but just thought of a guess I'm happy with - is it Permafrost?
Perm being the hairstyle, and the frost (and the whole word) being about the extreme cold?

That’s the right answer, Bertie.
My idea was that the hairstyles were Perm and Afros (plural for Afro) plus ‘t’ for the beginning of tundra giving ‘perm + afros + t’.

Not yet.
So far it's one of those where I can't work out which part of the clue to focus on as regards the type of answer I'm looking for (is it going to be a type of food, horse, etc?)
But I'll keep working on it. :)

I have said before that I like clues which involve putting one word inside another word to form a longer word which is the answer.
This is another such clue.

I'll have another go at it tonight, Barnard. I get the feeling it's definitely gettable, but I'm struggling with it.

I think I've finally got it! :D
Is it Lipizzaner?
It's got the food - pizza - inside (aboard) liner, a synonym for ship. And Lipizzaner is a breed of Horse.
Very clever. :)

Thanks, Barnard. And great emojis. :D

That was a very clever clue. I probably should have got it earlier as I was working along similar lines for a while, but then I kept veering off course thinking the answer might be a food instead.

I was fairly sure that you would get the answer, Bertie.
I don’t usually post emojis but I thought they were rather apt.

Ooer, gosh, good one. I had got as far as figuring out it must be a word for some kind of food inserted into a word for a ship, to make a word for some kind of horse, but although I looked up a whole list of horse breeds, I couldn't see any that fitted that pattern, so I gave up!! I've never heard of a Lipizzaner horse, which didn't help. Brilliant clue, Barnard, and great solving work by Bertie! :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
