Re: Random words to Blyton Worlds
In any number of Enid's adventure stories, the children while out camping or exploring (or trapped in the Valley of Adventure) eat food from tins. Tinned tongue is such a common delicacy in Blyton books (or so it seemed when I was little) that it's still a catchphrase in my family to this day whenever anyone brings up the topic of Enid Blyton — "Tinned tongue and ginger beer!!"

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Normally I'd go with a FFO reference, but Banshee Towers springs to mind and I try to mostly ignore that book so I'll go with the painting in The Secret of Moon Castle that the women make hiss and the eyes glow.

Re: Random words to Blyton Worlds
In Disappearing Cat, Pip and Bets sneak sausages from the breakfast table and wrap them in their handkerchiefs to take them to Luke when he's hiding out in the summer house. We're informed that Pip used a clean handkerchief for this, but in Bets' case, "her handkerchief was not so clean!"
