These editors with their updates do cause problems! I think the text must have been altered in your copy of Fun for the Secret Seven, Mehul. In my 1969 edition (Chapter 6) it says that the horse is worth about £10-£15 as Snehalatha said.

Mine is the vintage copy that Anita too has probably--- Knight books-- updating is really confusing and sad also--- many of us want to keep to the old, gold times---

I believe the book was Good Old Secret Seven, the telescopes was Jacks (although he was told to share) and the castle was Torlings Castle
