They didn't.
In came the Taggertys. They were clean, except Biddy knees looked like she had been crawling half a mile in some muddy place.

Probably not, as "yep", "ye", "yeah" etc are all just short/slang for "yes".

Actually, "yes" is polite, and the proper word. I do say "yeah" in casual situations. That's not the point, though. You're not allowed to answer "yes", so you're not allowed to answer "yeah" or "yeh".
