I only have a couple of photos from my childhood, Eddie. The one with the chimp around my shoulders and the one taken from a school year photo - both of which have been seen. Unfortunately, my mother threw out all our photographs (they were kept in a hat box!) when she moved into a small flat.Eddie Muir wrote: Why didn't you submit a photo for the competition?

The perfect answer, Nigel. Alas, you've just destroyed that image lurking in the back of my mind of an album of photos, all showing the young Moonraker clutching a Pool cue...

My old friend, you would have loved the photo of me, aged 10, at a Scottish themed event at my primary school. Alas, there no longer is any record of the one and only time I wore a kilt.

A kilt? I'm certain, Nigel, that lots of us here would have liked to have seen that photo amongst those Anita put up this time round.
Never worn one myself, but as a youngster I did rather want one of those wicked-looking daggers the Scots wear with their best kilts.
I wonder if Tony ever wore a kilt?

I lived in Glasgow for a short while in 1952 and both my brother and I wore kilts given to us by my paternal grandmother! Sadly (or fortunately), no photos were taken of us wearing them!

Re: Name the Forumite
Sgian Dubhs from rented kilts are plastic these days, or just a handle! As kilts are most often worn at weddings, and people generally drink at weddings.... well let's just say drunken Scots and real knives are not a good mix! On saying that, you can still buy proper Sgian Dubhs from kilt outfitters and some random 'we sell Scottish stuff' shops (Like "The Tartan Shop" in Dundee, which seems to sell tat covered in tartan, shortbread, quaichs, etc).Aurélien wrote:Never worn one myself, but as a youngster I did rather want one of those wicked-looking daggers the Scots wear with their best kilts.

Sgian Dubhs eh. How would one pronounce that, Fiona?
I suppose that the originals had a host of practical uses...*Thinking: Such as 'dealing to' any Sassenach wot stuck 'is nose over the border?*
Old nuisance, ‘Aurélien Arkadiusz’

It depends on your local accent but it should be said something like "Skeen do" or "skeean do".

Just came across this thread, and it was really nice to see me and other forumites smiling away...

Couldn't it be done again, with the members who did not participate? I'd like to guess!

I don't see why not - as long as enough people want to take part! Would you be submitting a photo, Farwa?
