Thank you for the confirmation, I wasn't entirely sure of that one.

After scrambling around I've come up with this one ...

A big, long-legged doll with an ugly face, a bright red frock, and long black curls. She hadn't come from a shop, like the others, but had been made at home.

.. and yes I did cheat and copied it from the first page of the book.

I do not know! I do know, though that Amelia Jane was amongst my favourite Blytons when I was young, but recently found out my Mum absolutely hated those books!
