Five on a Hike Together is my least favourite FF book (until the last two awful efforts!), and Dirty Dick is hardly a likeable character, so I'll definitely go for Dick as he's apparently really intelligent about all sorts of facts, and reads Latin, etc.

I'll choose Dick, as he's lots of fun in the books (whether or not he's now also a child genius, or as we would have said at my school, a brainiac :P). Roger's a bit too boring.

Dick (FF) or Barney (the eponymous)?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Difficult, as I like both characters, but as I prefer the Barney/R Mysteries I'll opt for Barney!

That's also tough, as I like both a lot even though they're very different personalities.

I think I'll go for George, as I love the relationship between her and Timmy and I can identify with her fondness for solitude (in the early books, especially).

I far prefer George over Julian who seems to have a superior, supercilious attitude.

George or Bets Hilton.

I'll go for George again, for the same reasons as a couple of posts ago. And I also feel her character gets a bit of a hard time of it from Enid as the series develops.

Whereas Bets, in contrast, seems to become a real favourite of Enid's. She's a nice character, and her relationship with Fatty is enjoyable. But the other four were meant to just be 'average kids' to Fatty's genius, whereas as the series progresses I feel Enid got so into the 'plucky little Bets, she's the best of all the Find-Outers' that it feels much more like the Fatty and Bets (and later, Ern) show. Whereas I'd have preferred the others to get an equal share of the 'sidekicks' roles alongside Bets, rather than all be relegated to bit parts.

Janet. She was just 'organisey' enough without being bossy and showed tolerance for Peter witohut unduly kowtowing. I always liked Janet.

I think that's a tough one.
I'd say Janet's a bit like Daisy in FFO, or Diana in Barney R's - solid, likeable enough characters, but also a little 'meh'.

Whereas, I don't think they'd have been anywhere near as effective a club but for Peter's leadership - as Julian-esque bossy as he was, I think it's his drive and determination that made the group successful and achieve all it did.

For me, Janet's the more likeable character, but Peter's the more interesting and important one. It's which of those to choose between... and I'll opt for Peter, just because I think his determination, leadership style, rivalry with Susie, etc, is what drives the books.

To answer my own question, I'll opt for Larry. He's reasonably average, and underused as it goes along, but I like his relationship with Daisy and how he reacted to being replaced by Fatty as the leader.

I think Philip - Larry just does not have much of a presence.

Aunt Allie, definitely. She's obviously a lovely person and she has — dare I say — better taste in men than Aunt Fanny. :P

Aunt Allie. I was never a fan of Moonface, though I can't remember why not. now, if you had asked me about Silky ...

So, Aunt Allie or Silky?

As I've never read the fantasy type books, I don't really know much about the likes of Moonface or Silky, so I'll also opt for Aunt Allie. She's a likeable enough character, though she doesn't really add much to the stories and I'd have probably gone for Miss Pepper than her as she adds more banter and humour with the children (in her series).
