In it is this inscription written in February 1939. I wonder if Ann enjoyed the book and how the war was for her?

I'm fond of inscriptions too, especially ones like this which happen to have been written shortly before a momentous event. You can't help wondering how things turned out for the owner of the book, and having the book and reading it makes you feel somewhat linked to them even if you never knew them.

At long last, I have acquired a copy of Mystery Manor, the second book in the series. So now I can finally start reading about the adventures of the Locketts. The book is a first edition from 1937 with a decent dustwrapper, two slight tears but clean and bright. I found it at Harrogate children's book fair a few weeks ago where I also bought a very good copy of Alison's Poaching Adventure by Sheila Stuart. I only need three Alison titles now to complete the set.
Hurrah! I have Mystery Manor in a somewhat torn (but still atmospheric-looking) dustwrapper, though I haven't read it yet. It's a gorgeously chunky book.
