Thanks, Pete. It sounds most interesting. I must check it out.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

I love the title!!
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Pete, you and I are operating on remarkably similar wavelengths! I discovered James Anderson and his “Alderley” books a few years ago, and I love them. The other titles are just as good: The Affair of the Mutilated Mink and The Affair of the Thirty-Nine Cufflinks.pete9012S wrote:James Anderson - The Affair of the Blood-Stained Egg Cosy
It is a shame there are only three books, as Inspector Wilkins is an endearing and comical creation. I think the author sadly passed away before he could write any more. I believe I read somewhere that as well as detective fiction, he wrote episodes of Murder, She Wrote. Not my cup of tea, but his trio of country house murder mysteries are wonderful. I thoroughly recommend them. If you have Audible and like audiobooks, those are superb, too. The narrator brings the characters alive.

I wonder where the secret passage in the linen closet comes out, or does that give the murderer away?
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.
