I bought several of them to my daughter and read them myself too. We both love animals. But for some reason the Swedish publisher stopped translating and publishing them after a while.

I've read a couple and enjoyed them. I love the country town setting and the friendly community feel.

I think it's interesting that Lucy Daniels was actually a male author - he took on a female because the books were targeted at girls.

I thought the "Lucy Daniels" books were written by many different authors, female and male. I know some titles were written by Jenny Oldfield and some by Sue Welford (author of the "Just George" series), among other writers. Apparently, the name "Lucy Daniels" was chosen so that the books would be near Colin Dann's "Farthing Wood" books (an established series appealing to animal-lovers) on the shelves in shops and libraries.

Yes, you are right Anita! I had thought all of the earlier ones were written by a male. But looking into it, quite a few were also written by females.

Love that marketing technique!!! Perhaps future authors should take note - have a pen name that would sit your book alongside J.K Rowling!!

Yes, perhaps "Rowke" or something like that!

I wanted to be a vet when I was little and I really liked these books. Never read any of the ones set in Australia though. I'd like to see an episode of the show.

I've re-read a couple as an adult and the friendship between James and Mandy seems ... forced somehow. The dialogue seems really stilted to me.
