This is the dust cover of Monica marsden, which I've mentioned of the Lone Pine Thread. It's a first edition 1950, and I bought it because I liked the cover and reminded me of the Secret Seven Dust jackets.

Never heard of it before but that is a rally lovely dust jacket. You are right about it being Secret Sevenish. It reminds me of those covers too. Its such a pity that the art of cover illustration seems to have vanished.

It's certainly the kind of dust jacket that would make me want to pick up the book with a view to buying it.

It was published at the time the Secret Seven came on the scene by the same publishers - it seems Brock Books liked that format for a dust jacket!Julie2owlsdene wrote: It's a first edition 1950, and I bought it because I liked the cover and reminded me of the Secret Seven Dust jackets.

A lovely cover, Julie. I like the long macs and berets - stylish without being fancy.

Re: Monica Marsden
Brockhampton issued several series of books under their Brock label with 'Secret Seven' style dustwrappers. I think the 'Cherrys' series has already had several outings on these forums, but here are two more:-
I also started collecting these as I liked the dustwrappers, Julie!
For the real 'anoraks', there were 12 Eric Leyland books in the series, mostly illustrated by John Woods who did this one, although one was done by our old friend Val Biro.
There were 5 books in the Sengler series by Grania Brandon and these were all illustrated by Norman Meredith, who some will recognise as a Blyton illustrator - he can also be found on the cover of Journal 8, when Barbara Stoney and I went to interview him.

Lovely dust jackets, Tony. When I go hunting in the old book shops, I must admit, it's not always Blyton I look for but the dust jackets. I've picked up one or two because of the covers. I could spend hours in these old book shops, they're magical.
Thanks for posting them, Tony.
