I've also read that in fact his Narnia books are religious allegories and he got many inspirations...

They are Christian allegory, yes. Rather blatantly so by the last book - I think he let himself get a bit carried away. Not sure what you mean by inspirations, though, can you be more specific?

I started rereading Till We Have Faces yesterday. Wonderful stuff.

I own Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters.

I've read part of the latter, though I found it so hard to read that I couldn't finish it.

The Narnia series is excellent, btw.

Are they making a film of it at the moment?
I'm reading my way through this series again and have just finished Prince Caspian. I'm now on Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

The Screwtape letters is easy to read in that it's easy prose and it is rather short but it's a difficult read in that it is capable of making even an agnostic like me cringe :). I understand that Lewis found it very difficult to write because of the self-examination that it entailed.

Do any of you like C. S. Lewis?

Post by Somita »

You must have read the books of the series "The Chronicles of Narnia" written by C.S Lewis. They are absolutely fantastic. And have you watched the latest movie made from one of the Narnia series, "Prince Caspian" ? :D
C.S Lewis is my favourite author-- after Enid Blyton.
Does anybody around here like him?

The Prince Caspian film has been released in a lot of countries but not Britain yet. Must admit that, of the seven books in the series, Prince Caspian is my least-liked although I do love the opening chapters. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favourite title, however, so I'm looking forward to seeing that on the silver screen eventually.

I really like the Chronicles of Narnia books - I often wish I lived there! It seems so like Blytonland, only a bit more dangerous.

Like Anita I didn't much like the book Prince Caspian but the movie was pretty cool. Of course, there were a lot of updates and additions to the film, but overall I think it wasn't bad. It was a bit of a disappointment, though, after The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. I found Ben Barnes' Spanish accent hilarious - honestly, I can imitate the Spanish accent better than he can! My favourite scenes from the film are the constant arguments the two kings, Peter and Caspian, have!

Skandar Keyenes and Georgie Henley were two really cute people in the first movie, but gosh, in Prince Caspian they looked awfully grown-up to me! Anna Popplewell doesn't seem to have changed much, but William Moseley (is he a science student, I wonder? ) seems to be acting much more freely in Prince Caspian.

My biggest disappointment was that Aslan wasn't too active in the war! I didn't quite like the River God bit, Aslan could have done it in a much more dramatic way, I think.

The Magician's Nephew is my favourite book in the series.

(By the way, I'm thinking of starting a library [let's hide Blyton in square braces] in our area. The idea isn't mine, it's my music teacher's, and since the club in which the library will be is for ages 7-12, and since I'm older, I might actually be an organiser, or the librarian! :D )

Congrats, Ming, if you are going to be an organizer or librarian of the library!
Like many of you, I too don't like the book Prince Caspian very much, I mean, other books of the series are better."The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe" and "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" are my favourites. I also like "Magician's Nephew" very much. The movie of "Prince Caspian" was cool and like Ming (?), I also liked the arguments of Peter and Caspian.

The library idea sounds good, Ming. Enid Blyton will be essential reading, of course! You could perhaps even make it a kind of "reading club," with badges, meetings, literary activities and book discussions.
