I don't know about that. There are some amongst us who would feel he'd been "blessed with a long life".

Oh no floragord! I'm a big fan of both the books and the films. It was just a cheeky reference to another thread.

Oh I did floragord. I even wrote a few words about it on this thread at the time.

Are there any LOTR fans who like the author Robin Hobb? I think she's a cut above the rest when it comes to fantasy fiction, especially her Farseer Series.

Interesting piece of news recently...
The Hobbit first edition fetches £137,000 at auction
Obviously there are some very rich Tolkien fans out there! (Wish the article gave us a translation of the Elvish inscription.)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit
I went to a flea market today and bought the 3 Lord of the ring books (in German). I read them 22 years ago and wasn't too impressed, I liked the Hobbit much more, but maybe I matured a bit and can appreciate them more now.

Lord of the Rings is one of my all time favourite books Wolfgang. I do hope you have better luck with it this time.

We will see, John, we will see. The list of books I want to read is quite long, LOTR is not top of the list.

Here's a piece of amusing news — according to Google Translate, it seems one does not simply walk into Russia...
