Legitimate ebook?

Post by Fiona1986 »

Everything about this one says illegal copy - but just thought I'd check to see if anyone knew differently! I only noticed it as my name pops up in the brief summary... it's almost impossible to report that to Amazon but I have tried emailing them. I might have better luck getting it taken down if it hasn't been licenced by Hodder.

"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Is that your 'Brief Summary' Fiona, and if so where was it originally written?

Yes, I wrote it for the Cave.

Surely then they are breaching copyright?

Good question Fiona.
At first I wondered whether this title may have originated from Faded Page site.

Then, reading this review which mentions altered names and text, could this book be the original version updated by the publishers a few years ago??

This was one of my favourite childhood books and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it again. I much preferred the illustrations in the original book and also noticed some minor alterations to the story. One of the character's names has been inexplicably changed from Margery to Marion. I am sure that the Carlton family also had a maid in the original version; this character seems to have disappeared. Otherwise it seems pretty much the same story. I would highly recommend it

Are we talking about the Kindle edition? If you click on "Read sample" you can see that the text is poorly set out. There are no paragraph indents and many words are run together, with no gaps between them. It definitely doesn't look legitimate!

It was the kindle edition I meant, yes. The cover alone was enough to make me think something was up.

Now I just have to figure out how to report it!
