A Timeless Journey With Enid Blyton in Dorset

Post by pete9012S »

Several other places on Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck found their way into the novels which became bestsellers among children for many years. This is South West England at its very best with some of the finest beaches, countryside and historic landmarks in Europe.

Really, though, the worst "chestnuts" in there that I could see were Corfe-Castle-is-Kirrin-Castle and of course "lashings of ginger beer", plus one reference to Enid's writings being questioned over political correctness as the times have changed (which is true, of course). At least there were no direct accusations of her being racist or sexist or classist or writing simplistic worthless pap. (Or playing naked tennis.) And it's a glorious plug for Purbeck! :D

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)
