Blyton Books for a Deserted Island
Recently I was standing in front of my Enid Blyton bookcase looking at all those 235 books which I've collected over the past 5 decades and thought which ones would I pick if a tornado would hit our house or for a deserted island?
Here's my list of the essential EB books I could't be without:

Five go adventuring again
Five run away together
Five go to Smuggler's Top

Mystery of Tally-Ho Cottage
Mystery of the Missing Man

For some reason it didn't copy the numbers at the front, so it's 30 books altogether.

I have a friend who has book shelves all over the house, including the entrance hall. Here she keeps the ones she would snatch if she had to leave the house in a hurry - if it was on fire for example!

Good list, Chrissie!
I could be here for ages if I tried to list absolutely every book I'd like to take with me, so I'm going to limit mine to 8 (making it only one from each of my favourite series) and call it Desert Island Blytons...

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I should probably add a helpful book to my list, maybe something like "My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George where she explains which plants are harmful to eat and which are good for you.
I don't know of such a book by EB.

Re: Blyton Books for a Deserted Island
Anita, I have not read any of these EB books above assuming that they are the non-suspenseful family stories.Anita Bensoussane wrote:Good question, Chrissie!

I was astonished that you've listed "River of Adventure". I thought nobody likes it?

Re: Blyton Books for a Deserted Island
I expect many would describe me as "nobody"!
Six Cousins etc. are family stories and Folk of the Faraway Tree etc. are fantasy tales. I've also included a few circus and school books. A lot of the books towards the bottom of my list are collections of short stories - though Book of the Year has all kinds of things to do with nature (plays, poems, stories, accounts of nature lessons at a small school, etc.) and The Big Enid Blyton Book contains extracts from a wide range of titles.
