Yes, they do don't they Daisy!
We don't have a Morrisons very near by (3.64 miles) but for a mince pie of this calibre I may well make the effort to travel a bit farther!!!

I've used the Delia Smith Christmas recipe for many years, always guaranteed success!Daisy wrote:Those look really very good! My mother used to make ours herself and she would add cooked apple to the mince mix. This made the mince less strongly flavoured and it went further too!pete9012S wrote:

Sounds lovely Floragord!
My Wife has given the go ahead for a 3.5 mile trip to our nearest Morrisons so we can sample the (alleged) best mince pies in the UK!
Would be very interested to hear of anyone's else's thoughts on the award winning Morrisons Mince Pie!!

Re: The Enid Blyton Mince Pie Challenge!
Just bought these in the reduced section of our local Tesco for 93p
I notice they were given 8/10 last year in one mince pie taste test so I will be very interested to see what they taste like.
This will be my first mince pie since last year so I have high hopes that they are a decent pie!
PIE OF THE YEAR CONTENDER KLAXON 2018
Out of nowhere, Tesco’s Lattice Topped variety becomes our first Pie of the Year contender. Had we considered Pie of the Year to be a thing until now? No, but it seems like a good idea to crown one the ultimate winner and this could be the one!
A lot about this pie is standard. Standard filling, standard pastry, the lattice top being the key deviation from the norm, which strangely improves the structural integrity here. Despite not shouting “I’M A DEEP FILLED MINCE PIE, HONESTLY I AM” all over the packaging, this is a deep filled pie. The taste is solid, fruity sweetness and aromatic spice working in perfect balance, with a pastry that does it’s simple job well. The lattice on top further improves the experience and we’re a sprinkle of sugar away from a 9 here – 8/10.

Mmmm... not bad - but not the best mince pie I've ever tasted. I would give them 7/10 at their reduced price of 93p and 6/10 when bought at the proper RRP.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Thanks to John for this amazing Xmas sarnie!
I did wonder what it actually tastes like:

https://inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyle/foo ... ams-821165" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Sandwiches aren't supposed to taste like candles. Not even Christmas ones. But Morrisons' new "mince pie" sandwich does. After the first bite, the flavour is relatively inoffensive, but then a waxiness arrives, followed by a raisin-born acridity, and all of a sudden it is as if you are biting into one of those unsold cinnamon candles you find in Debenhams deep into January, its red paper wrapping tired and loose, its tangle of wire stars long past twinkling.
Such a crayon-like quality was probably not the intention here. Morrisons has created what is essentially a cheese and pickle roll, jazzed up for the festive season. Below cheddar and Wensleydale cheese is a heavily spiced chutney-cum-mince pie spread, and a separate spiced mixed fruit concoction that is laced, apparently, with brandy. All is inside a "panettone-style" roll - not at all dissimilar in texture to Pret's brioche baps, only fruitier.

Its one of those nice recipes that does what it says on the tin!, guaranteed perfection , and they freeze like a dream. How did you rate the Morrisons mince pies, we've already got a guest list running into double pages so it'll be useful to have an award-winning fallback in case I run out!pete9012S wrote:Sounds lovely Floragord!

I haven't bought them yet Floragord - but I don't want to leave it to long, with Christmas almost upon us!

Re: The Enid Blyton Mince Pie Challenge!
Haven't had a minute yet to pop to Morrisons for their mince pies. However, my wife made me buy 6 luxury mince pies from co op this evening for two quid.
I suppose I will have to make a cup of tea now and test one....sigh....

Re: The Enid Blyton Mince Pie Challenge!
Thank you Daisy!
I forced one, ok ,well two down last night with a large mug of tea.
(The co op had a cheaper range on offer for six for a quid too, but I felt these luxury mince pies would 'hit the spot' better.)
Mmmmm, the verdict...
They are not a bad mince pie, but they didn't set the world on fire either.
I think they are better than a 7/10, but not quite an 8/10.
So for me, I would give them a semi respectable score of 7.5/10.
I'm going to try the co op's cheaper alternative of six mince pies for a quid next to see if they are an undiscovered bargain, or not....

I've just tried one of these - it's an Aldi 'Black Forest Crumble' mince pie - and it was delicious.
