I have always thought Society members should have access to a members only part of the forum, where scallywags, vagabonds and thieves can't gain admission.

I'm not a fan of the covers and illustration for those SS books at all.I also had the misfortune of coming across as 2012 Hachette version of The Naughtiest Girl books. It looks like something Jacqueline WIlson would publish, not Enid Blyton.

Re: Secret Seven Fan Club Website
Completely agree!!
I wrote in another thread ages ago about the Egmont school story covers which also look a bit JW-ish - the books look like they would be full of horrible little 'madams' who chew gum, cheek the teachers and gossip about boys, and wear high heels to school. Certainly nothing like what the girls in the stories are actually really like!

Exactly, it's meant to look like 1940s and 50s boarding schooling in Britain, not some modern foster care home which Tracey Beaker would go to!

Re: Secret Seven Fan Club Website
Spot on description there!
The Hodder Famous Five books look lovely with the traditional Eileen Soper covers and illustrations, and are obviously still selling well, so why can't traditional covers and illustrations be used for the other books too?

I wonder why contemporary artists can’t draw properly. It looks like standards have fallen.

Yep I've got some of the Hodder FF books from 1997 and the illustrations are decent and most of the text has remained the same from older editions!Carlotta King wrote:Spot on description there!

Re: Secret Seven Fan Club Website
i think the illustrators in these books don't know how to draw, but pretend that they can by saying their drawings are ``contemporary´´.
