I don't remember whether I've ever got that message for the search facility in the Cave, but I often get it for the search facility on the forums. It operates at a very slow pace and won't let you move on in a hurry, even if you only want to go to the next page of the search results. I once asked Keith whether it could be changed, but he said it couldn't. I forget the reason why, but it may have something to do with the fact that the forums come as a package with certain settings which are beyond Keith's control, unlike the remainder of the website (if that is the reason it should only apply to the forums, not the Cave).Courtenay wrote:I use the search facility a lot too, Tony. But I find that sometimes it comes up with a message saying something like "We're sorry, but the search facility is not available at this time. Please try again later" - and I have to wait a few minutes or reload the page a couple of times before it'll let me search again. (That's not the exact message, just going from memory.)
Does anyone else have this issue with the search facility, and is there any way to get it fixed?

I have never had that problem in the Cave, Courtenay, and I would think I have used it almost every day for several years. If I am uploading a book with short stories I use the search to trace where they last appeared so in that case I do about twenty searches in a row!

Re: Bill's Diary
I've never had any issues with the cave search and I do use it quite a lot as it's often quicker than trying to find something that's not one of the main series.
"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I should say I have no trouble with the Cave search - it is the other one which seems to limit you.

Re: Bill's Diary
Once André will return from Algeria in October, I'll ask him one more time to find "Looking for Fatty in Peterswood" (I have bookmarked it in my regular bookmarks in order to find it again) in EBS, but the last time he couldn't find it either.
It might have something to do with that wild card *. It's rather confusing to me. I think I was also asked to use + in front and after the title and I just kept forgetting to do that.

I never use any symbols like * or +, Chrissie. I just search for a likely word!
Daisy has no trouble with the Cave search facility but, like many of us, she does find the Forums search facility limiting.Chrissie777 wrote:Now you've lost me, what do you mean with "it is the other one which seems to limit you", Daisy?Daisy wrote:I should say I have no trouble with the Cave search - it is the other one which seems to limit you.

To find that I just typed 'Fatty' into the advanced search and selected 'topic titles only'.

Re: Bill's Diary
Sorry, you're right, Anita and others - it's the forum search that does that odd thing, not the Cave search. The Cave search is always fine. (I was typing on the fly earlier and things got a bit scrambled in my head. )

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Re: Bill's Diary - Circus
Just to say that I hear directly from the author himself that the next Bill's Diary offering is imminent, based on Circus, which means that our friends will be off to the Balkans. A great Christmas read for us all!

Yea, I'm looking forward to read the next Diary. Do you have any exact knowledge about when it will be released? I know that it is soon, but no more.
Bill: "I don't know what to say. You're only kids — but you're the finest company of friends anyone could have. You know the meaning of loyalty already, and even if you're scared you don't give up. I'm proud to have you for my friends."
