Prices are certainly odd on eBay! I recently put my books up in price slightly so that my wrappered Fives and Sevens are £12 - £14 each - thinking maybe that was a bit steep - but that includes free postage for buyers - then doing a search I see that most Fives, even from the 1960's are around £20 - £22 each!

I wouldn't pay 110p for that! Surely these sellers don't really think they can sell such terrible copies? If they're aiming at grabbing collectors they've failed because no collector wants a book in that state, and if their target is the average person they've failed there too, because the average person won't have enough interest to want to pay a lot .

The current edition, RRP £12.99 according to Hachette, going second hand for a mere £75 (with free postage)?! (And considering there are two copies of the same edition currently on eBay for £10.56 and £9.77, this seller is either incredibly optimistic or just plain stupid.)

I'm pretty sure those particular coins aren't worth thousands. I wish they were as I have a few of them. The one struck with colour are worth a lot as those were very limited. The others are part of every day circulation and if you pay attention you'll see them reasonably regularly.

I haven't seen one, lol...but I can't say I've looked very carefully - and I rarely pay attention!

You'll have to watch out for these 26 - 10p coins that have been issued this year. One for each of the letters of the alphabet relating to something 'Quintessentially British'.

I had a look online to see about these Beatrix Potter coins being worth "thousands" and found that, interestingly, there are two different sets — one released in 2016 (five designs) and one in 2017 (four designs). There's another set being released this year, apparently, too.

The "rare" one that reportedly just sold for £1,620 was from the 2016 collection, the one with Peter Rabbit facing forward. But as various reports have pointed out, there are actually millions of them in circulation. The Royal Mint always issues "certified brilliant uncirculated" versions that have a shinier finish on them and sometimes come specially mounted, but even they usually only cost £10 or so to buy new, unless they're gold-plated or coloured or whatever, which this one in the news wasn't. I suspect it just goes to show again that some people are willing to part with huge amounts of money for anything that's labelled "rare", even if it isn't...

As with the set I posted above, I have been collecting coins issued by the Royal Mint, on and off, for over 20 years now. In most cases I buy proof sets and sometimes individual special issue silver proof coins which are issued in limited numbers. The 26 coins above are all classed in the 'brilliant uncirculated' category, but are also in general circulation, although I have yet to see one.
