So, what is your role in Owl's Dene, Julie?

Nice to know you and your husband will be there, Kate. Sorry you can't make it, Eddie.

Re: Five Have a Mystery to Solve Film Show
Good to hear that a number of people from the Forums and the Society are going to be there. I see from the bfi website seatplan that about 100 seats have been sold which should give a pretty reasonable audience for such an old and rather obscure movie. Sad to hear that Julie, Nigel, Eddie, Petermax and others wont be there but I guess we cant have everything. Those attending will certainly post reviews and comments I'm sure.

Re: Five Have a Mystery to Solve Film Show
If anyone is interested - for a picnic or just a bit of socialising after the film, there is some grass a few hundred yards away from the BFI - next to the London Eye and overlooking the Thames.
Very pleasant if the weather is nice.

This is a Green Knight Book which means that it is a book by one of the most popular authors of all.

Re: Five Have a Mystery to Solve Film Show
I'm interested in that. I'm planning to spend the whole day in London and won't have a cool bag or anything, so if we're bringing picnic stuff I'd like to bring something that will be okay rattling around in a bag all day, e.g. cakes and biscuits, if that's all right. Would it be best if we all brought our own drinks, as they tend to be heavy to carry? Or if there's not enough interest in a picnic, we could perhaps go for a drink/snack at a bar or cafe?
I'm re-reading Five Have a Mystery to Solve so I can see how the film compares with the book. I'm currently on page 60-something and there's no hint of any adventure yet.

Have a nice time, everyone. Plenty of reviews to read afterwards would be great.
My role, Nigel, is the brains behind the organization of course. Or did Rooky say something about being head cook and bottle washerMoonraker wrote:So, what is your role in Owl's Dene, Julie?

Re: Five Have a Mystery to Solve Film Show
I too will be expecting to read reviews upon my return from Slovakia. As mentioned earlier, I will be on a trans-european pub crawl with a few of my work-mates and will therefore miss the film show.
I will be expecting great things from the E.B.S Mob, as it is very important not to let the side down.
1: No throwing gobstoppers, liquorice allsorts, sherbert dabs or confectionary of a similar nature at the screen.
2: No jeering, catcalling, whistling or unauthorised singing of any kind.
3: No tormenting the usherettes, they are after all only doing their job.
4: No talking back to the assistant manager.
5: No sneaking into the cinema via a side door in order to avoid payment. (à la Six Bad Boys)
I sometimes wonder if Saturday Morning Pictures should have been re-christened Saturday Morning Riots. Have a great time.

Aw, Petermax, aren't we allowed to have any fun?

Hope you too will remember you're a Blytonite, Petermax, and drink nothing stronger than ginger-beer on the pub crawl!

Re: Five Have a Mystery to Solve Film Show
Yes riots are scheduled to break out about five minutes after the film starts. I shall be sitting down with the book tomorrow to refresh my memory. I seem to recall though that no adventure actually begins until the Five's boat is blown off course to Whispering Island. The first part of the book was more concerned with scene setting and introducing Lucas, his stories and Wilfrid's skill with animals.
A picnic of some sort sounds good. Probably not the full Twyford style event but some biscuits, cakes and evryone brings their own drink sounds good to me. I'll have to be on my way by half past six at the latest but that should still give an hour or two of fun and post movie discussions.
Looking forward to it.

Re: Five Have a Mystery to Solve Film Show
I've just finished reading the book. Despite some glaring text errors it probably remains one of the best of the last few FF books. I cant wait to see what the film is like. The action in the book is actually squeezed wholly into the second half, about 90 pages worth. I would actually have thought it more suitable for one of the TV series' 30 minute adaptations rather than a full length film but we shall see tomorrow.
What time are people planning to arrive at the BFI? It starts at 2 o clock and I have to pick up my ticket from the box office. I also see that nearly 140 seats have been sold so there may be quite a queue to get in. I will have to have a look at the train times but I imagine i shall try to be there about 1 o clock, collect the ticket and then sit out in the sun or something till showtime.
