Picture of Green Hedges in Beaconsfield
Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain a copy of a photograph of Green Hedges?
We want to put one up in the new Enid Blyton Room in Beaconsfield (please see separate thread in this section of the forum).
I have trawled the photographs on this website but, although some of Enid Blyton's other homes are there, nothing of Green Hedges.

Bekonscot has a nice picture of Enid's daughter Gillian with the model of Green Hedges.

Viv,
Are you by any chance the lady who owns the shop in Corfe Castle? Love your website.
Kind regards,

Yes - that's me! (There is a website link under my avatar....)redlionweb wrote:Viv,

Do you know about the posters designed by Eileen Soper (who also did the illustrations for Famous Five) for EB's Nature Readers? The set of 60 were meant for classroom walls, but would do equally well in a pub!
Best wishes

Enid's autobiography 'The Story of My Life' is littered with pictures of Green Hedges. The book is 7" by 10" and there are at least 10 full-page black and white images of Green Hedges with family members cirtca 1950. A great set. You wouldn't even have to ask permission, if you had a copy of the book you could do what you like with the copy itself. That is, extract and frame the individual pages. Top page: 54.

By far the best photos of Green Hedges were in the sale catalogue when the house was auctioned. I have attached a scan from the Enid Blyton Dossier which showed a couple of the photos.
I don't know if the agents still have an office in Beaconsfield, but if they do and keep archives, you might have your answer.

Thanks Tony.
Don't suppose you can read a telephone number from those scans - or even what branch of Hetheringtons was handling the sale. I can't see from the posting.
Thanks for your help.

Shame on you, Green Hedges, the practice you refer to is known as 'Book-Breaking' the disbinding of books for their illustrations and plates is deplorable. Complete copies of old books should never be broken up.

A scan or print from jpeg will suffice. We want to be able to show visitors to the new Enid Blyton Room in Beaconsfield what Green Hedges (which used to be sited just across the road from The Red Lion) looked like. All suggestions welcome - particularly from anyone who may have a copy of a photo and would be happy to scan and email.

Re: Picture of Green Hedges in Beaconsfield
I can read it from the book from where the scan came - it is the Beaconsfield Branch of Hetherington, Swannell & Secrett and the phone number was Beaconsfield 2641, but I suspect that will be as obsolete as Enid Blyton's own phone number as the sale was about 35 years ago!redlionweb wrote:Thanks Tony.

Tony - have phoned Hetheringtons and the trail has led to another firm called Robsons where the Director (who's now in his 60s and used to own Hetheringtons) now is. Unfotunately he's on holiday until the end of the month.
In the meantime do you know who wrote/put together the Enid Boyton dossier as I'm thinking it may be worth contacting him/her?

Oh... ok. In which case, Tony, please have you got the originals of the photos (or copies) that you could scan and send? The two photos in your earlier scan from your book overlap.

No, I'm afraid I don't have the photos or I would have scanned them rather than the book in the first place. I borrowed the photos from someone and must have returned them as I don't have them now, but I honestly can't remember who from. I did borrow stuff from Gillian Baverstock, but sadly she is now dead and I have no idea who now owns all her photos.

Re: Picture of Green Hedges in Beaconsfield
What about your publishers. Did they not keep copies of the individual photographs? They must have had them prior to overlapping them in the book.
