That's what I figured - I'm always one for reading a series in order as far as possible anyway. I did read Rockingdown once, years ago, but can't remember anything about it except that there was an abandoned house that Barney slept in and the bloke they thought was a crook turned out to be worthy of hugs (from the girls) and slaps on the back (from the boys) at the end. 8) I suppose I should give it, and the rest of the series, another try some day.

By the way, Anita, in compiling the quiz, what did you have in mind for the recommended reading? Is it a book that would especially suit that character's tastes, or is it one that would be a bit "different" for them and would broaden their horizons a bit?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

A book that would suit the character's tastes - e.g. an intriguing mystery for Bets as she loves mysteries, a family story for Joan/Joanna as she is good at domestic chores and helping to look after a family, encyclopedias for Quentin because he is learned...

Makes sense, Anita. I just did the quiz again, for fun, with my "second" choices - there were plenty of questions where it was a close competition between two or more answers - and here's what I got:
You are ELIZABETH FARRELL from House-at-the-Corner. Imaginative and creative, you love to invent imaginary worlds and probably enjoy reading and writing, or art and craft. Although family life is important to you, you also appreciate having time alone with your thoughts. You are a deep person, keeping many of your thoughts and feelings to yourself, and sometimes people feel that it is difficult to get to know you intimately. Try to have more confidence in yourself and let your pleasant personality show.

Recommended reading: The Story of My Life
Also sounds quite a lot like me, except that I don't always keep my thoughts and feelings to myself! I haven't read House-at-the-Corner or The Story of My Life either.

Both are well worth a read. The Story of My Life contains lots of photos and interesting information about Enid Blyton's life and writing - though as she wrote it herself and aimed it at her young readers, it paints a very rosy picture of events. Elizabeth Farrell in House-at-the-Corner also goes through some of the same struggles as the young Enid.

Just took the quiz -
You are JACK TRENT of the Adventure series. Brave, independent and a bit of a dreamer, you hunger for adventure and love a challenge. You don't mind roughing it and would be happy to go travelling in remote regions, enjoying nature and wildlife. Follow your heart by all means, but weigh things up carefully before putting yourself — and perhaps others too — in unnecessary danger.

A shame that the Anecdotage was not in print in Quentin's time.

As for my answer, it's a tie between Jack Trent and Anne Kirrin for me.

I tried this a while ago and kept getting "a bit of a mystery" so gave up. I've tried again now and by changing the only two answers I wasn't sure about ("Where would you live" & "Which animal do you like" I managed to get two characters.

First I changed "old mansion" to "city apartment" and got "Alicia Johns", which wasn't very satisfactory. Then I changed "monkey" to "squirrel", and got "Bets Hilton", which I also wasn't entirely happy with. To be honest I'm beginning to think this isn't a proper scientific test.

But don't you realise the quiz was rigorously tested on a sample of 10,000 people across seven continents before being unleashed on unsuspecting visitors to the website?!

Of course - but as it's mainly scientists and explorers who go there, they mostly came out as Quentin Kirrin and Jack Trent!

Continuing the description of SNUBBY:

You are SNUBBY, real name Peter, from the Barney/'R' Mysteries. Lively and full of mischief, you often play pranks that can be found annoying and funny by different people. Although some dismiss you as "a pest", you have a certain charm - not to mention an ardent appreciation of food - that melts the hearts of even the most acerbic cooks and housekeepers.
