Row row row your boat gently down the stream

Post by Susie »

The Famous Five just seemed to be able to get in a boat and start rowing.
How many of you can row a boat?
I have enabled it that you can change your vote in case you start to learn. :)

Merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream.
There is always something else new to learn.

I used to row a dinghy around Portchester Creek as a child, my parents had a yacht moored there during the 1970s. It was very unspoilt back then, Port Solent had not been dreamed of and numerous old houseboats (converted motor torpedo boats!) were moored along the foreshore near the sailing club.

I love to kayak and canoe - but I've never rowed a rowboat.

I often wish I had my very own rowboat and could spend all day rowing down the river (preferably to my own little island  )

A resounding no from me. I've only ever tried rowing a boat once, and we spent most of our time going round in circles!

I tried to kayak once, but had no idea what I was doing, everyone else seemed to though I was put at the back so that I could follow and learn. Then we bumped into something and everyone went over board.
I suppose if you can kayak and canoe then rowing a boat would be simple. :D
There is always something else new to learn.

[Nigel:] Fat lot of good you'll be when we do our Northern Seas Expedition... :?
Well, we'll be going by motor-boat anyway. And if we do end up going round in circles, who cares? It just means we'll never have to come back!

Assuming that Nigel knows how to row a boat (he didn't say what he voted for!) you two wouldn't be in too much trouble. :D

You're coming with us too, of course, and you'll be expected to do your share of the work! Hope you weren't under the impression that you could just sit back, trailing your hands in the water!
