An exiting trip ahead.

Post by hobbes »

This is probably the wrong place to post but I am just bursting with excitement and had to share. My OH has a tradition of planning trips for us on August bank Holiday and the whole detailed operation is kept secret from me until the last minute.

This year knowing my love of all things Blyton we are off to Dorset- Swanage specifically to follow the Kirrin trail. We leave in an hour what a thrill.

I intend to see the famous Ginger Pop shop and make a few choice purchases as well.

I tend to lurk rather than post but i love to visit this site and know the regulars will be happy for me. I might even get to meet Viv!!!

Hope you have a great time hobbes. I went there last year and it is a really lovely place with lots of Blytonian activities to do. You'll find Viv very friendly and welcoming, go there on the steam train.

Actually by the time you read this you'll probably be back. Dont forget to post an account of your trip for us. :D

I hope you enjoy yourself, Hobbes - and do tell us everything when you are back. :D

As it's the Bank Holiday weekend I would recommend using the Norden Park and Ride and take the train into Corfe Castle and Swanage, the traffic on the Isle of Purbeck can be horrendous. You will like the Ginger Pop Shop, there are some marvellous items in there in addition to a full range of Enid Blyton books. I popped in briefly a couple of weeks ago during a flying visit to Corfe Castle with my niece. How she loved sitting in the Wishing Chair parked prominently outside the shop!

To return to the topic, I do hope you have a wonderful day and some sunshine too!
On the subject of Corfe castle, I am quite curious to know Viv's "take on the Blyton connection, as Tony has told us that Enid said Kirrin castle/island was off Jersey, I think.
However surely the Soper illustration is Corfe? That's why I wonder if Soper ever visted Corfe? One for Viv I think, please! :) :?

I'm off to Dorset this week too! I'm going to be staying in Weymouth, is there any Blyton type places near there I can visit?

I think most of Blytons work was based around Corfe Castle, Swanage. That area known as the Isle of Purbeck.

In Brewers Quay there is Discovery centre, and a museum, and some odd stuff. Your not too far from Corfe Catle. The Brownsea Island is quiet far, but it's worth it in the long run.
There is always something else new to learn.
