Enid Blyton for Prime Minister?

Post by RDMorrell »

New Zealand's oldest women's magazine, the New Zealand Woman's Weekly, turned 75 years old and has put out a rather splendid diamond anniversary issue. The oldest column in this venerable publication (which has sadly become rather trashy nowadays to keep up with its competitors like Woman's Day and New Idea - but I digress) is a column called "Over the Teacups", in which readers submit little anecdotes of funny things that have happened to them.

For the 75th-anniversary edition of "Over the Teacups", a letter was chosen from each decade, and here is the one from the 1950s, submitted by "Nan", headlined "WRITTEN IN STONE?" and dated 18 November 1954:
It was the great occasion of a birthday party and our twin daughters had been busy preparing a quiz for their guests, to be held in the quiet half-hour after tea. Each child came in and was duly asked numerous questions. One such, "Who lives at Number 10 Downing St, London?" proved to be rather difficult to answer. "Come on, you know," said the little hostess, "the most important person in England."

"Oh yes of course," answered her little friend, "Enid Blyton."
I'm sure any of us would have answered the same.
Best Regards

We are not allowed to post only smilies in our posts but I'm jolly glad that the girl supported our Enid... :D
Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.

When once the itch of literature comes over a man, nothing can cure it but the scratching of a pen.
