Elizabeth II Cornation Bible

Post by Christineoffeock »

I have the above bible and inside the first page is written, in what looks like Enid Blyton's handwriting: 'Here is the greatest book in the world. I hope you will read it every day. Love from your friend. Enid Blyton. Has anyone else come accross such a book.

Sounds interesting, Christine. How did you come by it? Can you post a scan of the inscription?

Hi Kate

Not sure how to insert an image using this system - although I have tried. I bought it in an auction in Cornwall about four or five years ago.

I could send a copy if you have an email address.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, Christine, but this is actually quite a common item. The same printed message was in all these Coronation Bibles and its only real value is as a Bible!

I have seen a number of people trying to sell these on ebay, sometimes at astronomic prices, but none of them seem to realise that it is simply printed and not handwritten at all.

I hope that you didn't pay too much for it in auction!

Hi Tony

Thanks for the information. I have been trying to reseach it but without much success. In fact I did look at past sales on ebay but found nothing. I'm interested in the history. In fact not all of these bibles have this inscription inside as at the time thousands were produced. So I wonder, did she do this for a particular church and did other well known people of the time do a similar thing?

And Tony I paid the grand sum of sixteen pounds for it about five years ago.

Thank you.

I think I am going to enjoy this site.

The funny thing is, if it wasn't for that bible I wouldn't be here.

If they are as common as Tony says I will keep a look out for one, I would love to have a copy.
