Well, he has started to parade around!

You are very rude in that, Julian.

Well i think we should open this up to some of Enid's cameo characters. Those one -off appearances that make her books so memorable.

I am torn between the mild mannered ornithologist Horace Tipperlong mistaken for a spy and pushed into a puffin hole and Lucian, the brer rabbit look alike.

Horace gets my vote this month. Hope it's in time.

Hurrah for Jack of the Secret Series! He's a resourceful, self-reliant orphan boy - a child of nature who is able to live off the land. He reminds me a little of Huckleberry Finn. Jack knows a great deal about the natural world around him - the properties of willow trees, how to catch and skin rabbits, etc - and uses this knowledge to his advantage. In The Secret Island he has bare feet and ragged clothes and does not even know how old he is, yet he is cheerful and optimistic and is a rock for the others to lean on. The other children call him "Captain" and he speaks in a way that suits that role: "Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" It's a pity that much of his individuality is lost in later books in the Secret Series.

Anita
"Heyho for a starry night and a heathery bed!" - Jack, The Secret Island.

"There is no bond like the bond of having read and liked the same books."
- E. Nesbit, The Wonderful Garden.
