Noddy and his Friends comic

Post by Ice_Gemz »

Hi all, I recently came across Noddy and his Friends comics, which I hadn't seen or heard of before.
Almost A4 in size, with colour and B&W comic strips, and puzzles. Originally 6p (if only they cost that much now!)

There seems to be little information about them online other than a few for sale.

Does anyone know anything about these, when they ran (1970s?), how many there were published, etc?

No, doesn't ring any bells with me - not even the one on Noddy's hat. ;)

A very quick Google suggests they were printed in the mid 1970s, at which point there wasn't anyone in my household in the age bracket they'd have been aimed at which is probably why I don't remember seeing them.

No doubt Anita has a complete set of them though. ;)

There's nothing mentioned other than a few books/jigsaws in the Cave.

I saw some for sale at Enid Blyton Days but somehow managed not to fall into temptation!

It is mentioned on the website in the Chronology - a section that nobody looks at!

1974 March 9 - Noddy and His Friends No.1 published by Hudvale.

I think this is the one?

Can anyone post a link to the section of the cave Tony mentioned? I can't seem to find it.

It’s not in the Cave, Pete. It’s in the Chronology on the Author of Adventure tab.

From the cover shown above it looks as though Noddy's friends include Mary Mouse, Bom and Silky (and perhaps the other Faraway Tree folk too). Mary Mouse and some of the Faraway Tree folk (including Silky) were with Noddy in Enid Blyton's play Noddy in Toyland, along with other Blyton characters who were normally outside the Noddy universe. I don't remember Bom being in the play but he may have fraternised with Noddy in another Enid Blyton book. The Saucepan Man pops up in a couple of Noddy titles and there's an Amelia Jane story where it's mentioned that Billy-Bob and Betsy-May have visited the nursery where Amelia Jane lives - so it's possible that Bom and Noddy had met elsewhere prior to the publication of the comic.
