Thanks for sharing that story, Pete. A bit of an element of "The Gingerbread Man" in there, but a lot more enjoyable — and I laughed out loud at the unexpected twist: "I couldn't bear to be a beautiful dragon! Why, everyone would laugh at me!" :lol: It reminds me of a joke I remember from primary school:

Q. What do you call a friendly, kind-hearted, good-looking monster?
A. A failure.

When we were little, my sister and I read 'The Goblin and the Dragon' in this 1975 Purnell book:

Our bedroom door wasn't painted and the wood (probably wood veneer, actually) had knots and other markings, and there was one part that looked exactly like a dragon's head. We named it Goofle after the dragon in that story!
