Maybe robins had to change their tunes to get heard at all. It is reported that birds in noisy areas change their singing habits to get noticed.

That's interesting Wolfgang.

I think I've also heard that birds change their songs at different times of the year. I'm guessing that during the mating season their songs might be 'richer' in order to attraction a mate.

It might also be a case of personal interpretation - if a Robin's song is the one I'm thinking of, then I would also describe it as rich and creamy, but I may be thinking of a different bird, as sometimes it's difficult to spot where the chirps are coming from.
