Lovely, thanks, Pete. (Wot, no mention of bluebells, though??)

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I have a feeling that the seasons were a bit later 100 years ago... I always connect bluebells with May rather than April, and it is only in the last 20 -30 years that plants have seemed to advance and now appear earlier than they used to.

Global warming has contributed to its early appearance.Daisy wrote:I have a feeling that the seasons were a bit later 100 years ago... Re: 'The sweetest month that any year can hold...'
It reminds me a little of one of my favourite of Enid's poems, 'Gold and Blue' which appears in the Sunny Stories calendar for 1944. Its the only Sunny Stories calendar I have, and I display it in a frame, turning the page over for each new month!
Despite the title, it also makes no mention of bluebells - probably because, as Daisy says, bluebells didn't appear until May usually.

hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Well, I come from Australia where they don't appear at all. I love "Gold and Blue" too — I was just thinking of that one when I read the one Pete posted and was trying to remember where it came from. Thanks for sharing it, Rob.

Glad you like it, Courtenay!
Its great sharing poems - I believe we had a thread once but it got buried somewhere!
The Sunny Stories calendar for 1944 had some lovely poems - and I also like the artwork and the simplicity of the colours.
