I'm watching the fairy snow fall right now while reading this! :D Well done, Pete.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

It’s falling very heavily here in Brighton as I write. The buses have already stopped running and many of the schools have been closed. I hope this weather will be short-lived.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

The world is still green here and the sun is shining. It's jolly cold though!

We had about five minutes of Fairy Snow and now the sun is out again and the sky is very blue...as blue as forget-me-nots at least! :-D
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

(E. Blyton, Sunday Times, 1951)

I'm surprised to hear that Rob - I had imagined you would have had much more snow than those of us in the frozen North West of England!

The same poem (with an illustration) from Enid Blyton's Treasury Of Verse 1979.
The poem originally posted was taken from News Chronicle Boys' and Girls' Story Book No. 2 (News Chronicle 1934)
" A kind heart always brings its own reward," said Mrs. Lee.

I have both versions - although it was published a bit after my childhood Enid Blyton time, so I never owned a copy as a child, I must admit I love the illustrations in the Treasury of Verse. :-)

Can anyone post the poem as it first appeared in the 1924 book above?

Unfortunately I don't have the Book of Fairies in that version. I have the news Chronicle version of The Book of Fairies, and the Dean version, but not the original. I'd always presumed the News Chronicle versions of The Book of Fairies, The Book of Bunnies, The Book of Brownies etc were straight reprints of the originals...but maybe I'm way out with that assumption!

I also like the poem "Jack Frost" which appears on the opposite page to "Fairy Snow" in the Treasury Of Verse.
We've had quite a bit of fairy snow in Lincolnshire today, it is coming down now at 5.35pm.

I really miss seeing the 'artwork' of Jack Frost. As kids the windows were always covered in ferns and leaves etc - beautiful! Its something I miss about the winters these days.

Me too Rob, but I would miss the central heating and double glazing now, I'm afraid!
