The sheer volume of this uncollected material is incredible and we are so lucky that Tony is prepared to work so hard to share it with us. Thank you.

I decided to have a look through the Teacher's World entries from the beginning, unfortunately, the first story (issue 885) has a chunk of text missing, sorry to nit-pick, Tony, but I thought you would like to know!

Kate.

Thanks for pointing that out, Kate, I can't think how it happened. I do most certainly like to have any problems pointed out and I will correct them as quickly as possible - Peronel is already complete!

I haven't yet had time to read these stories (though I'm looking forward to doing so), except one - 'The Wonderful Garden', Teachers World 1828. It's a simple, fable-like story. The reason I chose to read that tale is that The Wonderful Garden is also the title of a full-length children's book by E. Nesbit!

We had a thread about "borrowed" titles once before, in which you mentioned 'Little Black Sambo', Tony:

The first little story I chose to read was the Very Naughty Little Dog. Nice little story, and one Enid seems to favour about having to leave home because of no money and finding a hidden teasure. In this case the dog found it, buy not very pleased that Enid writes the dog was whipped and tied up, because of it digging.

It would have been more pleasing for the dog to be scolded or something! Made me wonder whether Enid did this to any of her dogs!!

I'm afraid that there are only seven new uncollected stories today as I ran into a few problems. TW 1702 The Green Goblin was possibly the worst and it shows what effect sellotape can have on something 70 years later! I am not going to own up as to how long it took me to clean this so that it was fit for the Cave!

Image

My advice would be never to use it on books or dustwrappers. Today's stories are:-

TW 1420 A True Dog Story
TW 1649 The Strange Old Man
TW 1664 The Gull That Remembered
TW 1702 The Green Goblin
TW 1721 An Egg for Gillian
TW 1733 The Stolen Eggs
TW 1893 Gillian’s Kite

At least there is another dog one for Julie!

These are lovely little stories. It makes you wonder how Enid could have so many inside her head?

The True dog Story, was lovely, but I am now wondering what did happen to that little dog. And what also puzzled me was when the boy said it didn't have a Tailwagger medal with a number on? Was that some sort of award??

Gillian's Kite was lovely the way Enid had the kite describing all it saw. Enid was a true story teller for children.

You did a good job of the Green Goblin, Tony. There was no trace that I could see of the sellotape marks. :)

The Tale of Pitapat was a lovely little tale. I wonder whether it was true, that Enid took one of her Siamese cats on holiday and it wondered off. If so she was very lucky to have found it. :)

Just read 'The Green Goblin' and 'The Germander Birds', the first being a humorous story about a Maths-based spell and the second being a sweet little fairytale which draws attention to an aspect of the natural world. Lovely to be able to read these uncollected stories.

Oh happy days! Can't wait to get my teeth into those little beauties! However, I am probably being ever so thick, but how do you find them? I've searched using the ref number, but nothing found. :D

Edit:
I don't know what I did, but suddenly Peronel and his Pot of Glue has appeared! :D

Ah verily, the Cave is a wondrous thing.

Much appreciated, Tony.

I've just checked out numbers 1033 containing 8 little starter stories with to be finished at the end of them. Are these stories that Enid started and meant to finish but never got around to it, Tony. Or did she just start them as an idea, do you know?

I'm afraid that I can't link them all, Nigel! Go into the Cave, go to Periodicals and then click on Teachers World and you will see all the numbers down the side of the page.

Julie, they are deliberately unfinished in a similar manner to Tales Half Told in Nelson's Reading practice series, where Enid started stories for children (or even big children like Julie - okay scratch the word 'big' :D ) to finish. I am sure it would produce some imaginative results!
