How very sad to have read of the sudden death of Steve Wright at the age of 69, who had presented on BBC Radio and TV for many years,

I loved the Steve Wright in the Afternoon show with Ask Elvis, the old woman, the factoids etc. I was sad when that was taken off air but recently I’ve been listening in to Steve doing Pick of the Pops on Saturdays. He will be greatly missed.

Sad news. I also used to enjoy listening to Steve Wright in the Afternoon.

Steve Wright was great. RIP. Way too young.

He had a way of engaging with his audience that really held your attention for ages funny but quite capable of being more serious where the situation required it.
While he did television, radio was more his forte following that side of his career from an early age.

The best of my generation. RIP

Although I hardly listen to the radio, Steve Wright was an absolute giant for me in my appreciation of old popular music because he was the long term presenter of Top of the Pops II in the 1990s.

Not many 'true' DJs left at the Beeb now. The current trend is to have programmes presented by TV 'celebrities', Claudio Winkleman, Nicky Chapman and so on. Tony Blackburn and Johnnie Walker still survive, learning their craft (pun not intended) on the pirate ships - I struggle to think of any others.

With respect to Steve Wright for posting this in this topic.
The mention of of Tony Blackburn just reminded me of this. Last Friday I bought a ticket for a show at our local theatre in July this year when Tony Blackburn is hosting a live edition of "Sounds of the 60s". It also happened to be the last ticket left for the front stalls and it's on the fourth row.

You will have a great time. Sadly, Tony's Sounds of the Sixties show hasn't been to a venue near to me yet.
Back to Steve Wright, I loved his Steve Wright in the Afternoon programme, but wasn't that keen when he took over Pick of the Pops. I felt Paul Gambiccini was much better. Just a personal opinion, of course.

His afternoon programme was excellent.
As for Pick of the Pops, there has only been one truly great presenter of it, the brilliant Alan "Fluff" Freeman, a superb DJ.

Yes, I remember that, Nigel. I also remember when he read out listener's letters, he made a point of thanking the writer for the "kisses on the bottom".
