Best Mince Pies 2022??

Hard to believe we started these Mince Pie taste tests way back in 2014!!
viewtopic.php?p=222135#p222135

But, after seeing the odd advert or two on tv this week about Christmas, it seems that time of year is here again.

I've manfully eaten a shedload of mince pies over the years to find the very best mince pie.
This year will no doubt be any different.

I've yet to eat a mince pie this year yet - have you?

Now we have youtube's expert food comparison/taste tester 'Bald Foodie Guy' to help us decide what mince pies to buy too:

Co-op 4 Shortcrust Mince Pies £1.50 -Any 2 for £2.50 until 03 January 2023

My first pies of 2022. Very good indeed. I like these baked in store type of pies.
I really liked Mr Kipling in the 1970's, but they don't seem the same these days.

8/10 for me - the ones to beat.
Superb with a large mug of Yorkshire tea.

Surely better with a wee dram?

Cripes, the Whiskey Thread & The Mince Pie thread seem to have merged - but I don't mind at all!!! :D

A worthy malt to accompany a mince pie - or two!

On my recent Welsh break I tried Penderyn Madeira 46% abv for the first time.
As a bit of a Whisky snob, I was a bit sceptical, but despite having no age statement it won me over immediately..

I'll gladly have the dram but you can keep your mince pies, can't stand the things and never could. Doesn't matter who has made them.

You don't sound as if you're on the fence about mince pies John!

Are there any Christmas time food/drinks that you like?

I'm yet to meet someone who is crazy about egg-flip/Advocaat!

While "crazy" might be overstating it a bit I do enjoy a very occasional egg-flip/Advocaat! Oddly enough, I am also not very keen on mince pies and Christmas pudding and it is actually several years since I have had any.

Not egg flip / Advocaat but I do love the traditional Christmas dinner and the chocolate Yule log and all of the cinnamon and almond spiced cakes etc that appear at this time of year.

I don't mind it, although it's years since I had any so my tastes may have changed.

I bought my first mince pies this year from the Co-op. We have to have gluten and dairy free ones, so I try and stock up a good supply before they run out. We've already bought some Christmas puddings.

I do try and make Christmas puddings and a cake too, but gluten free pastry is very difficult to make (or it is if I try to make it), so I don't bother to try and make my own any more.

Mince pies aren't my favourite Christmas food item, so if it's a choice of a slice of cake or a helping of pudding, then I'd go for those first. :)

I'm going to a Spar shop later, so I may try and get some of their mince pies to test.
I'm also passing a Marks & Spencer food shop - but will need to check I have enough cash to buy some of their pies.

I do like Greggs pack of six mince pies.
I could buy them too...

So many choices, but I must pace myself as its only the 29th November!!! :D

If you have "Seattle" coffee shops there, you could try one of their mince pies if they sell them. Hopefully they are as good as the ones here.
It's the only café or coffee shop here that sells them as far as I know, so you can sit there and have a cuppa and a mince pie (they make the best tea as well).
Out of our supermarkets, probably Woolworths (similar to your M and S) are the best.

Well, I ended up buying six of these from Greggs for £2.50 on Tuesday.

I'm having a pie now with a huge mug of tea.

What's this pie like? Well, for me it's a perfect mince pie.
Moist, fruity, crumbly pastry and unfortunately very moreish!!

The score for these wondrous pies?

A solid 9/10 for me. Here's to the next pie. Now which one should I buy??? :D
