Very interesting indeed! Apparently, I have the 844th commonest surname in the world. It's most prevalent in the USA, but its greatest density is in Wales (where it is the 9th commonest name). As for the English Heritage link, it appears to be commonest in Lancaster, although I don't believe I have any family connections with there.

I think Nigel got it spot-on as I indicated in my previous post.
You are of course correct BB and Nigel :D . The translation I gave was from a welsh colloquial point of view. There are a few 'meanings.'
