R.I.P. John Challis - 'Boycie' Only Fools and Horses

Post by pete9012S »

John Challis, best known for playing Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, has died aged 79.

His family said he died "peacefully in his sleep, after a long battle with cancer".

"He will always be loved for being 'Boycie' and leaves a great legacy of work that will continue to bring pleasure and smiles for many years to come," they said.

Came across as a really nice man in interviews. And I did once see him at a supermarket checkout (I believe he was performing at the local theatre that week), and he seemed to be having a nice long chat with the cashier. I wasn't going to be nosey, but I guess they weren't just talking about groceries!

And Boycie was a legend!

I saw John Challis in an open air performance of As You Like It at Ludlow Castle some years ago. Loved The Green, Green Grass as well. He will be much missed I'm sure, but he has left us a wonderful legacy of classic TV.

RIP John Challis. Only Fools and Horses must be one of the best comedy series ever made.

RIP John Challis. He was terrific as Boycie and by all accounts a very nice man.
