Actor Johnny Briggs has sadly passed away this morning at the age of 85. He appeared in a couple of Carry On films but was probably best known for playing Mike Baldwin in TV's Coronation Street for 30 years from 1976 to 2006. I remember him from the 1960's TV series 'No Hiding Place'.

RIP Johnny Briggs. I really only remember him as Mike Baldwin but he was very good in that role.

I've seen him as a character actor in clips of old sitcoms and films (didn't he play a thuggish teddy boy in an early one?), but yes Mike Baldwin was the defining role he will be most associated with. He appeared in some great storylines when Coronation Street was still very good!

One of Johnny Briggs’s early film appearances was in The Lavender Hill Mob which starred Alec Guinness.

I saw him whilst he was filming back in the early 80's over at what was then, Granada Studios. I think he was in No Hiding Place, or some detective series back in the early 60's.
