Sad news. R.I.P.

Dame Diana Rigg enjoyed a long and distinguished acting career on stage, in film and on television. The range of her roles was enormous, from serious drama to high camp.

RIP Diana, she was in a awful lot of varied roles, alas it's not programmes I'd normally watch, I do remember her in the Bond film, but that apart I don't think I've ever viewed any of her other roles, she must have worked right up until her death virtually, as she has 2 productions still to be released, one of which is Black Narcissus, this must be an updated version of the 1940's Powell/Pressburger film that starred Deborah Kerr amongst others.

And she'll still be on our screens in the coming weeks, as she has a role in the All Creatures Great And Small reboot.

I was very sorry to hear this news earlier today, having seen Diana Rigg in a number of things over the years. She was a great actress and always looked so elegant. I last watched her in the most recent episode of the new All Creatures Great and Small, which I'm thoroughly enjoying.

I was shocked and saddened to hear this on the news earlier. I loved her in The Avengers, she created one of the greatest characters in tv history in Emma Peel. RIP Dame Diana Rigg .

Without doubt, the role of Emma Peel in The Avengers has to have been Diana Rigg's most iconic. But she was also a noteworthy Bond girl in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, being a more complex character than the usual Bond girls (especially of that era) and the only one to get Agent 007 to the altar! Another role I remember Diana Rigg for was in Mother Love, which I watched in 1990 and for which she won a BAFTA (she was seriously scary in that). While I have never watched Game of Thrones, I saw a clip of her saying "You are a dragon, be a dragon" or something like that, and she still had a wonderful screen presence. The same news item with the GOT clip also showed her as Mrs Pumphries in the new All Creatures Great and Small. She doesn't look so well, but she still has that presence!

In New Zealand, we have a word called "mana", which comes from the Maori language and means something like having status or prestige, or an obvious authority, or being highly respected, and that sort of thing. Well, in the acting world, Diana Rigg had mana in spades. A sad loss indeed.
