I’ve just heard the sad news that Ricky Valance died today aged 81 (or 84, depending which version is correct). He reached number one in the UK charts with his cover version of the Ray Peterson hit, Tell Laura I Love Her in 1960. In fact, he was the first Welsh male singer to reach the top spot in Britain.
I prefer his 1962 recording of Don’t Play Number 9, which wasn’t a hit:

Re: RIP Ricky Valance
That is sad news, Eddie. 'Tell Laura I Love Her' is one of my very early favourites, so this also has to be played.
R.I.P. Ricky Valance.

He also made this - his final single in 2017.
It's worth reading the accompanying text on the YT page
It would seem that he was 84, Eddie.

Two excellent recordings, John. I was particularly interested to hear Welcome Home and read the accompanying text.

Re: RIP Ricky Valance
His voice was just as good at 80 as it was in 1960, Eddie. I found it very moving.

RIP Ricky Vallance. I've always like his version of Tell Laura I Love Her.
